About ('ORIKI')
OrishaSkin ORIKI (Origin Story) begins with my own tumultuous journey towards healing my dry skin condition. As a professional model the career demands my skin reflects my inner confidence and connection to purpose. So when I'm on catwalks and photoshoots the last thing I want to worry about are patches of dry itchy flakey skin. This led me to leading dermatologists around the world who, beyond diagnosing my condition as Discoid Eczema/Nummular Dermatitis, couldn't successfully treat or heal my chronic skin condition.
After trying all the chemical treatments, I set out on a personal quest to find the moisturizers & methods that my Yoruba ancestors used. On trips between fashion weeks in Cape Town and across the continent, I connected to my matriarchal village in Ibadan, Nigeria and I found a small batch production method of artisan crafted body butters, butter creams & body scrubs rooted in centuries of intergenerational teaching. I became obsessed, carrying my personal batch with me to every shoot & show, so behind the scenes my friends would ask about my skin and I'd share, they'd sample and ask me to make them a batch.
During the 2020 pandemic, despite the slow down in the modeling industry my friends' requests kept growing and OrishaSkin the brand was born from my Brooklyn kitchen table. I realized I could embody & share my culture beyond model through handcrafted limited run collections composed of natural shea, cocoa, kokum, and mango butter sourced from West Africa. Each is blended carefully with undenatured organic coconut oil along with the carrier and essential oils infused in botanical flowers, plants, and herbs to release their healing nourishing properties.
